Sr. Network Engineer / Project Lead
Montana (up to 60% travel) Full-time · Hybrid 75,000–105,000 Reports to Service Manager
A client-facing, field-heavy role designing, deploying, and managing complex network and infrastructure solutions across customer sites. About 60% is on-site project work and travel, with the rest split between senior escalation support for the service team and pre-sales engineering for sales.
What you'll do
- Project leadership: lead end-to-end delivery of network infrastructure projects, from scoping and planning through deployment, testing, and handoff documentation.
- Field engineering: serve as the on-site technical authority for complex LAN/WAN, firewall, switching, wireless, and hybrid cloud controller deployments, with up to 60% travel to client sites.
- Escalation support: act as the final escalation point for advanced networking, infrastructure, and architecture issues, providing resolution and knowledge transfer.
- Pre-sales engineering: partner with sales to scope, design, and price solutions, joining discovery calls, site assessments, and proposal development.
- Project management: manage timelines, budgets, vendor coordination, and client communication in ConnectWise.
- Documentation: create and maintain network diagrams, statements of work, and runbooks that support delivery and ongoing support.
- Team development: mentor mid-level and junior technicians and improve escalation processes and the knowledge base.
- Participate in the on-call rotation as needed for critical client infrastructure issues.
What you bring
- Expert-level routing and switching (Ruckus, Aruba), Sophos firewalls, and enterprise wireless deployment and management.
- Hands-on Sophos SD-WAN and RED tunnels, site-to-site and remote-access VPN, VLAN segmentation, and QoS design, with Sophos Central familiarity.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking, hybrid identity (Entra ID), and Microsoft 365 infrastructure.
- Proven ability to manage concurrent projects from initiation through closeout, ideally with ConnectWise.
- Ability to scope and document technical solutions, produce network diagrams, and present to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication and a professional on-site presence.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites up to 60% of the time, including occasional overnight stays.
- Five or more years of hands-on network engineering, with at least two years in a field or project delivery role.
Nice to have
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Active certifications such as Sophos Certified Engineer or Architect, Ruckus Certified Wireless Associate, or Aruba Certified Switching Associate.
- MSP or multi-client environment experience.
